Recently, every news station has been hovering over the Ray Rice scandal. I’m sure most of you already know, or have seen the brutal footage of Ray striking his fiancee across the face. Well, from ESPN’s “Outside The Lines”, I have learned that there are many details that were left out of the story when publicly announced. The public continues to respond harshly towards this situation, while behind closed doors, the NFL has been trying to regain it’s credibility.
When I first saw the video of the assault, I was stunned and I immediately felt hatred towards Ray Rice. After looking further into the story, my stance has shifted since I now have a better understanding of what actually happened. Long story short, NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, is being criticized for his lack of punishment against Rice’s actions. The fact of the matter is that the police, along with his current wife, neither pressed charges nor convicted him of a crime. With that being said, is Roger Goodell really in the wrong? Rice openly confessed to Goodell in February immediately after the incident, and since then has undergone suspensions, and now eviction from the NFL. After reading ESPN’s article, I have learned to not jump to conclusions without researching for myself.
